Gene
F. Mahaffey, D.O.
Dr. Gene Mahaffey retired
in 1990 after 36 years in Family
Practice and opened the
Wellness Center in southeast Denver in 1992, with an emphasis on Disease
Management, preventive
medicine, weight management and nutritional counseling. Again retired in 2002, he is active in
health counseling and
lecturing on health issues.
Dr. Mahaffey attended the
University of Missouri at
Columbia and graduated with
honors from Kansas City
University of Medicine and
Biosciences in 1952. After his
internship at Rocky
Mountain Osteopathic Hospital in Denver, Colorado, he practiced in Missouri one year and relocated
to Colorado, opening his
family practice in Englewood. He was certified in Family Practice in 1965 and later
added Dermatology to his
medical and surgical practice.
During his years of
practice he served as a volunteer at the
Salvation Army and Denver
Rescue Mission. After
retiring from medical practice and opening The Wellness Center in southeast Denver, he also taught
nutrition at the National
Institute of Nutritional Education, lectured on health issues at local businesses, and hosted a weekly
radio call-in program on
Stations KLZ, KHOW and KNUS.
Since retiring again in
2002, he remains active in health
counseling, lecturing for
cancer recovery groups and
retirement
centers.
